How We Got Here

  • 1971 – Legendary trampoline pioneers Larry Griswold and George Nissen establish the USTA with roughly 200 charter members and a single competition division.
  • 1980s–1990s – Membership and meet participation accelerate; divisions expand to better match athletes’ skill levels.
  • 2000 – Nationals surpass 1,000 entrants for the first time, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity.
  • Today – USTA hosts nine tumbling divisions and six trampoline & double‑mini divisions, with Nationals welcoming nearly 2,200 athletes across 5,000 individual events.
